MARI LWYD WOODEN HOLIDAY ORNAMENT
Are you familiar with hoodening? (Yes, that is a real word.) Mari Lwyd is perhaps the most famous of all examples of this British folk custom, and comes from Wales. At Christmastime, a hobby horse of sorts is created with a horse's skull placed upon a long pole and covered in a sheet. It is then adorned with ribbons and bells and paraded around town, wassailing (or singing for to entry into homes), for drink and merriment. This ornament is lovely rendering of this festive and bizarre folk custom, and measures approximately 3" tall. It was made using responsibly-sourced cherry wood.
