100 STRANGERS

100 STRANGERS

The creators of An Infinity of Ships would love for you to meet 100 Strangers, wild and unexpected characters for your sci-fi roleplaying games, written by STATIONS and illustrated by Roque Romero.

Inside the zine, you will find no dashing pilots, rugged resistance fighters, or brilliant scientists.

Instead, you will meet misfits, outcasts, weirdos, normies, and other folk generally ignored, backgrounded, or simply unimagined in many sci-fi universes.

Instead of standard classes, you have 100 unique backgrounds, such as “washed-up pharmacist,” “kitbashed salesperson,” “fugitive beauty contestant,” or “degraded back-up ethicist.”

Each character has a few SkillsItems and Quirks

These are loose, suggestive, occasionally obtuse or opaque; make them your own.

Each character also has a few stats:

  • Strength (STR)
  • Dexterity (DEX)
  • System (SYS), reflecting their ability to interact with their own operating system (intelligence, wisdom) and external systems (charisma, computers, etc))
  • Hit Protection (HP), reflecting their ability to absorb damage (high of 6, low of 1).

These stats can be used immediately in any Odd-like game system such as Electric Bastionland, Monolith, or Cairn, or simply interpreted to suggest the character’s relative strengths and weaknesses.

For STR, DEX, and SYS, a high number is good, and a low number is bad, on a 20-point scale.

Make your characters even more interesting with some strange tables!

  • Last Names (or Why Not?) - d100 last names, and d20 reasons why last names might not exist at all
  • Two Truths and a Lie - d100 statements about a character that may or may not be entirely factual
  • Tell Us About Your Look - an absolutely fabulous clothing generator
  • What, Me Worry? - catchphrases, from hip to cringe and everything in between
  • F**k, Marry, Kill - 2d20 drive generator
  • Status Update - 2d20 relationship generator
  • All the Feels - d100 passions and aversions
  • Do Electronic Sheep Dream of Androids? - d100 odd dreams, and contexts for their occurrences
